First excursion: Segovia

Although we could not be in Madrid to witness the proclamation of the new king, we were able to visit the famous former summer residence of the Spanish kings located just outside of Segovia. As part of our first official excursion out of León, we made a stop at the Palacio Real de La Granja de San Ildefonso.

The baroque-style palace, said to be inspired by Versailles, is now a museum open to the public. Here the students were able to explore several of the rooms once inhabited by the monarchs and also view the expansive collection of paintings, statues and elegant tapestries that are housed here. While the inside of the palace was beautiful, what students enjoyed most were the picturesque gardens.
